DESCRIPTION:Jenni Brandon’s Found Objects on The Beach and The Wildflower Quintet Performed by the Kalliope Reed Quintet in Mazatlán\, Sinaloa\, Mexico. Kalliope Reed Quintet is New England’s first professional reed quintet\, strengthening the role of contemporary chamber music in the 21st century. The members are: \nAnna Bradford\, Oboe \nCéline Ferro\, Clarinet \nWolcott Humphrey\, Bass Clarinet \nBennett Parsons\, Saxophone \nNatalie Zemba\, Bassoon \nThe first performance is Monday\, April 18\, 2022\, 7:30 pm MST. Casa Haas – Mazatlán\, Sinaloa\, Mexico. \nHear the Kalliope Reed Quintet in Mazatlán\, as part of their Festival Temporada Primavera! They have an exciting program planned of works from across the Americas: \n\nAstor Piazzolla’s — Tango Suite\nGershwin’s — An American in Paris\nDaniel Cueto’s — Momentos Peruanos\nArturo Marquez’s — Danzon no. 6 (arr. Kalliope Reed Quintet)\nJenni Brandon’s — Found Objects: On the Beach – Jenni will be there in person!\n\nMany of these works are Latin American premieres\, and it will be an exciting evening of music not to be missed. The generous support of Mid Atlantic Arts and their USArtists International Grant Program\, for make this performance possible. \nTuesday\, April 19\, 2022\, 8:00 pm MST. Teatro Angela Peralta – Mazatlán\, Sinaloa\, Mexico. \nJoin the Kalliope Reed Quintet in Mazatlán\, Mexico for the second concert and entirely different program at Festival Temporada Primavera! The first half of this program migrates musically from north to south with three beautiful works by living composers: \n\nBeginning in Canada with Mathieu Lussier’s — Laurentian Bolero\nMoving to the USA with Jenni Brandon’s — Wildflower Quintet\nEnding in Mexico with Arturo Marquez’s — Danzon no. 5.\n\nThe second half migrates musically from south to north: \n\nBeginning with Miguel del Aguila’s — Transoceanica\, depicting a long and adventurous bus ride from Rio Brazil to Lima Peru.\nAfter arriving in Peru Kalliope performs Daniel Cueto’s — Amaru – about the great Peruvian Deity\nConcluding concert in Mexico with the World Premiere of Across the Seas Towards the Mystical by Mexican composer Charles Philip Daniels Torres!\n\nAgain\, an exciting evening of music not to be missed\, and in the beautiful Teatro Angela Peralta. Huge thanks to the generous support of Mid Atlantic Arts and their USArtists International Grant Program\, for making this performance possible. \nThe five movements of The Wildflower Quintet for Reed Quintet (Oboe/English horn\, Clarinet\, Soprano/Alto Saxophone\, Bass Clarinet\, Bassoon) are based on the imagery from several poems by Bette Woolsey Castro\, a friend of Lady Bird Johnson who founded the Wildflower Center in Texas. This work\, as The Wildflower Trio for oboe\, bassoon\, and piano\, was commissioned by the College of Fine Arts of the University of Texas at Austin to honor the life and environmental work of Lady Bird Johnson. \nIn this newly re-imagined version for Reed Quintet that was commissioned\, recorded\, and premiered by the Kalliope Quintet\, the colors of the quintet add additional voices to the many wildflowers in Texas and across the United States. These instruments help to paint a broad picture of colors\, shapes\, and majesty of the flowers\, and continue to honor the legacy and work of Mrs. Johnson. \nI. Wildflowers\nII. A six-movement work approximately 23 minutes. \nPremiered by the PEN Trio (Nora Lewis-oboe\, Phillip Paglialonga-clarinet\, and Eric Van der Veer Varner-bassoon)\, this work is published by TrevCo Music Publishing on the new PEN Trio Collection Series!
