Duration approximately 14 minutes
Cobalt Blue, a new concerto for Flute (with Piccolo) by California composer Jenni Brandon is a vibrant musical journey through Long Beach, California. Guided by a virtuosic Flute (with Piccolo) solo, the work explores iconic landmarks and events: from the striking Cobalt Blue Pyramid and the energy of the Grand Prix to the peaceful coastline and the majestic Queen Mary.
Featuring colorful textures and imaginative soundscapes, the concerto beautifully showcases both soloist and ensemble, making the wind symphony version an exciting choice for university wind symphonies and professional groups. The version with piano is great for recitals, rehearsals, and as a competition or audition piece.
Cobalt Blue is commissioned by Dr. Jenni Olson, lead commissioner, with the California State University, Long Beach Bob Cole Conservatory of Music Wind Ensemble with Dr. Jermie Arnold and consortium members. Dedicated to Dr. John Barcellona.
