From Sea to Sky Stories of Amazing Women, by Jenni Brandon, performed by the Crane School of Music at Potsdam New York. The performance was on Sunday, March 23, 2025, in the Sara M. Snell Music Theater at 7:30 PM. The Sara M. Snell Music Theater provides an ideal acoustic for operas, concerts and recitals, seating just over 450 audience members.

From Sea to Sky: Stories of Amazing Women for Oboe, Clarinet in B-flat, and Bassoon celebrates a group of remarkable women who profoundly influenced our world. From the depths of the sea to the expansive skies and beyond, it chronicles the extraordinary contributions of women in science, the arts, and exploration. Option to perform as a whole or choose sections for concerts and educational events.

This work explores the following women:

  • Jeanne Villepreux-Power(1794-1871), the inventor of the Aquarium and a leading researcher in cephalopods.
  • Anna May Wong(1905-1961) – the first Chinese American film star in Hollywood who was a champion for Asian Americans in film and television.
  • The mother-daughter duo of Marie(1867-1934) and Irène Curie(1897-1956) who both won Nobel Prizes for their work in radioactivity.
  • Bessie Coleman(1892-1926) – the first African American woman and Native American Woman to hold a pilot’s license.
  • Sally Ride(1951-2012) – First American woman to fly in space.
  • Nicole Aunapu Mann(1977- ) – first Native American woman in space.
