Jenni’s Love Songs Performed at the Art Reach of Mid-Michigan
April 16, 2018 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pmFree
Jenni’s ” Love Songs” are performed by Latoya Lain and Lindabeth Binkley, of the Central Michigan University (CMU), School of Music faculty. The performance is at the Art Reach of Mid-Michigan, 111 E. Broadway St., Mt Pleasant, MI. on April 16, 2018. This performance is part of CMU’s 125th anniversary events and its Mt Pleasant Central Talk Series.
Jenni’s Love Songs’ texts are translations of Native American words. This is a story of the Native American woman – a story that she might tell to her child while she rocked the child to sleep. It is a story that I feel can be universally understood, but points to the strength of not only the Native American woman, but to the strength of all women to persevere, to raise children and to keep community strong against all odds. It is a “love song” in that it goes beyond just romantic love but tells of love for a child and love of the land.
for soprano and oboe was premiered at Ball State University by Aryn Day Sweeney-oboe and Yoko Shimazaki-Kilburn-soprano in March 2014.
Central Talk Events are free and open to the public. They begin at 5:00 PM with refreshments. They begin at 5:30 PM, followed by a brief question and answer period, concluding at 6:30 PM
