Dr. Lia Uribe and Dr. Leigh Muñoz formed Contra+Bassoon in 2017 to promote new repertoire for bassoon and contrabassoon. Enjoying the unique sound of the combination of the bassoon and contrabassoon, they work to stimulate creation of new repertoire for this ensemble, especially those by underrepresented composers. Dr Uribe and Dr Munoz will perform a half recital featuring their Contra+Bassoon commission, titled “An Orange Tree,” by composer Jenni Brandon. It was inspired by a poem written by El Salvadoran Alfonso Quijada Urias and reflects his messages of otherness and being away from home. The performance at IDRS will be the world premiere of An Orange Tree.
