Description
The Peace of Wild Things by Wendell Berry tells of finding solace in the natural world when life becomes complicated and worrisome. I thought Berry’s message of hope resonated well with the theme of peace for the Brandywine Singers’ concert, and in setting this poem to music I wanted to reflect Berry’s hopeful view. The line “I come into the peace of wild things” is simple yet powerful, and I wanted this to be painted musically with the reflection of majesty of nature and what it can offer us in these troubled times. This freedom from worry or grief can be incredible, and I tried to find a balance of joy and reflection in setting this poignant text.
