“The Starlight Night” is the first movement from Starry Night, a three-movement work for solo Clarinet in B-flat. It tells of the night sky and our fascination with what lies in it. This movement is inspired by a poem of the same name by Gerard Manley Hopkins and explores the beauty of the night sky, from the tranquility of darkness to the stars as “fire-folk sitting in the air” that are curious and playful.
- The Starlight Night
Look at the stars!
look, look up at the skies!
O look at all the fire-folk
sitting in the air!
Gerard Manley Hopkins (1844-1889)
Starry Night was written for Virginia Costa Figueiredo, premiered in February 2013, and appears on her debut album “Seule”.
